Organised by the Education Bureau (Applicable to Primary and Secondary Schools)

Mainland Exchange Programme for Students An Exploration into the Arts and Culture in Beijing (2023/24)

Summary

This circular memorandum invites secondary schools to nominate Secondary 2 to 6 students and school teachers (including principals) to participate in the captioned programme.

Details

It has been set out in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address that more opportunities will continuously be provided for students to participate in the Mainland study tours.  The targets include reserving adequate places for all students in publicly‑funded schools to participate in at least one subsidised Mainland exchange programme each in their primary and secondary stages under the Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students and the Mainland Exchange Programme for Secondary School Students.

The Education Bureau (EDB) organises the Mainland exchange programme for students entitled “An Exploration into the Arts and Culture in Beijing (2023/24)” (the Programme).  In line with the curriculum, the Programme aims to enhance students’ understanding of Beijing’s development in arts education and its artistic and cultural characteristics, and develop students’ interest in arts and cultural activities.  Students can also explore the school life of Mainland students specialising in arts so as to think about their life planning and future pursuit.

This programme consists of two parallel study tours in Beijing, scheduled for 23 to 26 April 2024: Tour A focuses on visual arts & Tour B focuses on performing arts.  The programme offers a total of 80 students and 8 teachers exchange quotas.  Details and application procedures are attached at Education Bureau Circular Memorandum Annex 1 to Annex 3 (Chinese version only).

Student participation is on a voluntary basis.  Schools should proactively encourage students who have not participated in any Mainland exchange programmes to join the Programme.

Each school can nominate at most two groups of participants (each group consists of 10 Secondary 2 to 6 students and 1 teacher) for the Programme.  Priority will be given to schools nominating mainly members of the visual arts, drama or film club, students taking relevant senior secondary subjects (including Applied Learning courses) and teachers of Visual Arts or Drama.  Interested schools are requested to return the completed application form (Annex 4, Chinese version only) to the Life-wide Learning and Mainland Exchange Section 2 of the EDB by email (cdolwlme25@edb.gov.hk) on or before 23 February 2024 (Friday).  Late submissions will not be accepted.
