National Defense Education Experience Camp (2023/24) - Passing on the Torch

Organised by the Education Bureau (Applicable to Primary and Secondary Schools)

National Defense Education Experience Camp (2023/24)

Summary

This circular memorandum invites secondary schools to nominate Secondary 1 to 5 students and school teachers (including principals) to participate in the captioned camp.

Details

It has been set out in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address that more opportunities will continuously be provided for students to participate in the Mainland study tours.  The targets include reserving adequate places for all students in publicly‑funded schools to participate in at least one subsidised Mainland exchange programme each in their primary and secondary stages under the Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students and the Mainland Exchange Programme for Secondary School Students.

The Education Bureau (EDB) organises the “National Defense Education Experience Camp” (the Camp).  In line with the curriculum, the Camp aims to nurture students’ moral character, develop their self-discipline, perseverance, team spirit and enhance their life skills.  Through visit to the court and participation in thematic talk, the Camp deepens students’ understanding of national defense and the legal system of the Mainland, cultivates in them a sense of belonging to our country and national identity, and raises their awareness and responsibility of safeguarding national security.

This is a 5-day Camp scheduled for 6 to 10 May 2024 to be held in Zhongshan.  Details and application procedures are attached at Annexes 1 to 3 (Chinese version only).

Student participation is on a voluntary basis.  Schools should proactively encourage students who have not participated in any Mainland exchange programmes to join the Camp.

The Camp mainly caters for students who have positive learning attitude and are active in participating in competitions/services inside/outside the school.  Each school can nominate at most  one group of participants (each group consists of 10 Secondary 1 to 5 students and 1 teacher) for the Camp.  Interested schools are requested to return the completed application form (Chinese version only) to the Life-wide Learning and Mainland Exchange Section 2 of the EDB by email (thematicmep2@edb.gov.hk) on or before 5 April 2024 (Friday).  Late submissions will not be accepted.
