An Exploration into the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Guangzhou (2023/24) - Passing on the Torch

Organised by the Education Bureau (Applicable to Primary and Secondary Schools)

An Exploration into the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Guangzhou (2023/24)

Summary

This circular memorandum invites primary schools to nominate Primary 4 to 6 students and teachers (including principals) to participate in the captioned programme.

Details

It has been set out in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address that more opportunities will continuously be provided for students to participate in the Mainland study tours.  The targets include reserving adequate places for all students in publicly‑funded schools to participate in at least one subsidised Mainland exchange programme each in their primary and secondary stages under the Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students and the Mainland Exchange Programme for Secondary School Students.

The Education Bureau (EDB) organises the Mainland exchange programme for students entitled “An Exploration into the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Guangzhou (2023/24)” (the Programme).  In line with the curriculum, the Programme aims to help students learn about our country’s conservation of intangible cultural heritage, understand the historical and cultural values of intangible cultural heritage through different experiential learning activities, thereby enhancing their national identity and cultural confidence, and recognising that cultural security is an integral part of safeguarding national security.

This is a 3-day programme scheduled for 22 to 24 July 2024.  Details and application procedures are attached at Annexes 1 to 3 (Chinese version only).

Student participation is on a voluntary basis.  Schools should proactively encourage students who have not participated in any Mainland exchange programmes to join the Programme.

Each school can nominate at most two groups of participants (each group consists of 10 Primary 4 to 6 students and 1 teacher) for the Programme.  Interested schools are requested to return the completed application form (Chinese version only) to the Life-wide Learning and Mainland Exchange Section 2 of the EDB by email (thematicmep2@edb.gov.hk) on or before 17 May 2024 (Friday).  Late submissions will not be accepted.
